Cover Reveal and Pre-Orders

Pre-orders open today, and the cover shows the whole book in one window.

Pre-orders for Fixed to Death open today. If you already know you want a copy, you can reserve one now, and it will land on your Kindle on release day with nothing more for you to do.

The cover

There is a cover now. It shows a storefront window done in deep blue and teal, with warm orange trim around the frame. Set in the window and facing out is a gold antique cash register, all scrollwork and rows of round keys, with a hand crank on the side. Above the register runs the series line, A Repair Café Mystery, and the title is set below it in blue and orange lettering.

The cover is the book in one picture. Someone set a machine in a lit window so the whole town would look, and that is when the trouble starts. There was no other image to choose.

The book

Sylvia Odegard paid far over the going rate to have a 1911 National cash register mended in a Main Street window, lit after dark, where the whole town could watch. Two weeks later she was dead at the bottom of her cellar stairs, and the county wrote it down as a fall. Connie finished the register anyway, and what she found on it was not wear. A key was missing from the estate, and someone had forced the case. She left it in the window and kept the ticket open.

Where it lives

The cover lives on the book's page at the store, where you can see it at full size. The Notebook has always been text-first, so I am not going to post it here, only tell you it is done and where to look for it. Seeing it finished was a good day. The pre-order is open, and the book arrives on Tuesday, August 4.

Reads Light

A customer had said the woman weighed heavy, and the talk went round the town a day before her scale reached my bench. She wanted it checked, not defended, and the weights had an answer that ran the other way from the accusation.

Four Fields on Every Ticket

A repair ticket has four fields, always in the same order, and I ran my own working life on the same form before I ever gave it to a detective. The last field asks what the fix cost, and in a mystery that cost is never only parts and hours.
